Why they might be annoying
They are a two hit wonder.
They kept their original name for less than a year.
When their 1970 North American tour sparked barely a ripple, Goulden and Allix quit.
During their 1974 Scandinavian tour Brice met a woman in Denmark, fell in love and quit the band.
They have had several line-up changes, including 4 different lead singers.
After more than a decade they released the 1986 single 'Dreamer' that did not crack the Top 40.
No original members are left, yet they still tour.
They have retired and unretired a few times.
Why they might not be annoying
They derived their name from William Makepeace Thackeray's famed novel 'Vanity Fair.'
'Early In The Morning' hit #8 in the U.K. and #12 in the U.S., selling over a million copies (1969).
'Hitchin' A Ride' hit #16 in the U.K. and #5 in the U.S., also selling over a million copies (1970).
'Hitchin' A Ride' became a cult classic among California hitchhikers in the early '70s.
During the early '70s they performed as many as 14 concerts per week.
They have 2 gold discs and over 5 million in record sales to their credit.
Current guitarist Eddie Wheeler, who has been with the group since 1972, is left handed.
Former guitarist Tony Goulden became the mayor of their hometown, Medway Towns, Kent, England.
