    Born in South Bend, Indiana

Represents Minnesota's 6th Congressional District (assumed office January 3, 2015)

    Republican

Why he might be annoying:

He was ticketed for driving under the influence (1981).
He pleaded guilty to careless driving in return for DUI and license-plate violation charges being dropped (1991).
As state legislator, he sponsored a bill to shorten the time a driver’s license would be revoked for DUI or refusing to take a sobriety test (2009).
He sponsored an amendment to the state constitution to ban same-sex marriages and civil unions (2007).
He sponsored an amendment that would let Minesota ignore federal laws (2010).
After interacting in Washington, DC, with people who had tested positive for Covid-19 (including Donald Trump, he boarded a Delta flight to Minneapolis, violating airline rules and potentially exposing passengers to the virus (October 2, 2020).
He withdrew as a candidate for Speaker of the House four hours after securing the nomination (October 24, 2023).

Why he might not be annoying:

He played hockey for Boston College and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
As a state legislator, he regularly rode the bus to the Capitol.
He tested negative after the Delta flight, so he probably did not expose anyone to Covid-19.
He voted to certify the Electoral College results in the 2020 election (although that came back to bite him the ass during the Speaker election, when the Trumpist wing of the party decided he had been insufficiently servile).
He voted in favor of the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified same-sex marriage rights in federal law (2022).
