    He considered quitting in the early 1990s, because ‘I came into this industry to do cinema and I was stuck in television.’
    He added an extra ‘r’ to Irfan because he liked the sound.
    In several films, he went by the single name ‘Irrfan.’
    He was good enough at cricket to earn an invitation to the CK Nayudu Tournament for emerging players in the under-23 age group, considered a stepping stone to first class play, but was unable to attend due to a lack of funds.
    He earned a scholarship to the National School of Drama in New Delhi (1984).
    He won four Filmfare Awards – the Bollywood equivalent of Oscars.

    He was described as ‘India’s most celebrated face in the West.’
