    Consist of three main groups (Lehrerleut, Dariusleut and Schmiedleut), each subdivided into several colonies
    Speak Hutterite German
    Women are required to wear unflattering polka dot kerchiefs.
    They are strict pacifists.
    Members live communally and there is little private property.
    Men and women conform to strict gender roles.
    Children leave school around age 15.
    The strictest colonies forbid photography and require mirrors to be covered.
    A fourth group, the Arnoldleut, was excommunicated (1990).
    Their small gene pool has led to a higher than average number of birth defects.
    They believe in the separation of church and state.
    Their pacifism led to brutal persecution in several countries.
    Some colonies allow bright colored clothing, music and alcohol.
    Many communities hold high school classes for older teenagers.
    Most colonies are self supporting.
    They accept technology that assists them with their farming.
    They have closely followed their beliefs for over 400 hundred years.
