    Founded by Jean Nicolet, under the commission of Samuel de Champlain, chief of New France's exploration of North America
    Set up La Baie des Puants, a small trading post, at the location in 1634
    Nicolas Perrot established a Jesuit Mission in 1671
    Town was incorporated in 1754 as La Baie Verte (French for 'Green Bay')
    Control taken over by the British in 1761 during the Seven Years' War (1754-63)
    2000 census population: 102,313 (metropolitan area: 282,599)
    Awarded title of All-America City twice (1964 & 1999)
    Home of the Green Bay Packers, winners of Superbowl I, II and XXXI

Why Green Bay, Wisconsin might be annoying:

    Just about anyone who doesn't live in Green Bay believes that if you don't love football, you have no business living there.
    It comes in third in two different areas - third-largest city in the state of Wisconsin (after Milwaukee and Madison), and third-largest city on the west shore of Lake Michigan (after Chicago and Milwaukee).
    The lumber industry, a cornerstone of it economic development, has all but disappeared from the area.
    After 97 years, the Green Bay and Western Railroad was merged into the Wisconsin Central in 1993, which was bought by the Canadian National railway in 2001.
    Did I mention the folks of Green Bay and their obsessiveness towards football?

Why Green Bay, Wisconsin might not be annoying:

    Nicolet became allies with the Ho-Chunk (aka the Winnebago) Native American nation, where ties for trading were established.
    French settler Charles de Langlade, known as the 'Father of Wisconsin,' moved with his family to Green Bay in 1765, becoming the first permanent settlers in the state.
    By the 1850s the British and French settlers were joined by an influx of Dutch, Irish, German, Scandinavian and Belgian immigrants, turning it into a melting pot of folks for the state.
    President Franklin D. Roosevelt came to the town to help honor its tricentennial in 1934.
    The Green Bay Packers hold 12 NFL World Championships, giving Green Bay its nickname of 'Titletown.'
    It was home to legendary football man Curly Lambeau (whom the Packers football stadium is named), and made stars out of coach Vince Lombardi, and quarterbacks Bart Starr and Brett Favre.
    It is the birthplace of 'Monk' actor Tony Shalhoub, hometown of 'MST 3000' creator and host Joel Hodgson, and Mona Simpson, novelist and sister of Steve Jobs, as well as the namesake for Homer's mom on 'The Simpsons.'
    Its Green Bike Program allows residents usage of bicycles for free when they sign in and out for them at various locations throughout the town.
