    She is less famous than Helen Keller despite the fact that her education achievements came 50 years earlier than Keller's.
    She was said to be an extremely whiny child.
    Her story encouraged Helen Keller's parents to continue educating her.
    Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, learned the manual alphabet from her and taught it to Keller.
    She gave a handmade doll to Helen Keller.
    A Liberty ship during World War II was named in her honor.
    At a young age, she was blinded and deafened by scarlet fever, which killed her older siblings.
