The Resume

    (April 5, 1939-June 8, 2010)
Born in Swanley, England, United Kingdom
Birth name was Robert Peter Smith
Recorded the singles 'You Were On My Mind' and 'The Pied Piper' (both 1966)

Why he might be annoying:

Before his solo success, he performed as a member of the Hard Travellers, the Country Gentlemen, the Beat Formula Three and Peter & the Wolves.
He boasted that he wrote better songs than the Beatles, sang better than Elvis Presley and was more exciting than Tom Jones.
    He had three nervous breakdowns.
After his pop hits dried up, he tried singing country, gospel and on the oldies circuit.

Why he might not be annoying:

'The Pied Piper' was a top five hit in the US and Britain.
'You Were On My Mind' hit #2 in England and, after the success of 'The Pied Piper,' made the US Top 40.
He claimed that his boasts were meant to be tongue in cheek.
After suffering a stroke (1995), he relearned how to play guitar using just one finger on his right hand.
