The Resume

    (August 3, 1956-November 13, 2013)
    Born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania
Birth name was Todd Jay Christensen
Tight end/long snapper for the Oakland Raiders (1979-1988)
Four-year starter and running back for the Cougars at Brigham Young University (1974–1977)
Selected in the second-round, 56th overall, of the 1978 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys
Was released in 1979, playing briefly with the New York Giants before signing as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders, where he played for the remainder of his decade long career
After his retirement became a sports commentator, on both the professional and collegiate level
Variously leant his expertise as a sports analyst to NBC Sports Network, ESPN, CBS Sports Network, NFL on NBC, and Mountainwest Sports Network
Also co-hosted the second half of the first season of American Gladiators, along with Mike Adamle (1989-1990)
Died from complications from a liver transplant surgery at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, near his home in Alpine, Utah (Nov. 13, 2013)

Why he might be annoying:

    He wrote poetry.
He was famous for his trademark, thickly bristled, black mustache.
He tried out for the Anaheim Angels and Oakland Athletics after his football career ended.
He was a star track and field athlete as a kid but joked that, after he hit puberty 'I discovered I wasn't as fast as I thought I was,' drawing him to football instead.
He broke his foot during a Cowboys exhibition game, which placed him on the injured reserve list. He couldn't play a down during a season in which team won the conference title and played in Super Bowl XIII.
His option was waived at the end of the Dallas Cowboys training camp, after he disagreed with their decision to have him play tight end.
His own personal eccentricities made him an ideal fit for a team known, at the time, for wild antics both on and off the field (such as making a mock rap video in which Christensen sang the lead).
He guest-starred on an episode of Married With Children, playing a dick sports trivia game show host ('Man, I hate rehearsals, Let's go, let's go, let's go!' 'If I liked you at all I'd be really sorry!')

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an All-Western Athletic Conference selection as a BYU senior, in 1977.
Playing for the BYU Cougars, he led in receiving for three consecutive seasons.
He is a member of the Brigham Young Athletic Hall of Fame and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
He was personable, sporting a clever, wry, sometimes self-deprecating, sense of humor.
He was a scholar both on-and-off the field, known for rattling off quotations from the philosophers, authors, and the Bible, in ordinary settings.
He earned Pro-Bowl honors five consecutive times (1983-1987) and received First-Team All-Pro recognition twice (1983, 1985).
He led the NFL with 92 receptions, in 1983, yielding career-highs with 1,247 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
He played key roles in the Raiders' 1980/1983 Super Bowl victories. The latter win, a whopping 38-9 over the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII (January 1984).
He balanced work and family almost seamlessly, once giving an interview to CBS Sports' Jim Hill with his four kids popping in and out of the screen (the whole time seeming to relish in the hectic fun of it all).
He set an age-group World Record in the Masters Track and Field Heptathlon, shortly after his retirement, making him the top decathlete in the world for ages 45-and-over.
He choked up with tears in an emotional speech at the CBS Sports Spectacular, discussing the toll of his youngest son's spinal disability (2007).
