Authored 'My Friend God' and 'Roger Kaputnik and God'

Why he might be annoying:

He was Jewish and would chide Mad publisher William M. Gaines about being an atheist.
He greeted Gaines daily with 'May God give you his blessing,' and Gaines would politely reply, 'Dave, shut the hell up!'
He sometimes came off as a judgmental, Andy Rooney-like curmudgeon in his comics.
He smoked a pipe.

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked at Mad for forty years.
His 'Lighter Side of' column provided a gentle counterpoint to the more violent humor that Mad specialized in.
He frequently included drawings of himself and his co-workers in his comics.
He jokingly made up the pseudonym Roger Kaputnik for himself as a boy to keep his mother from having to remember the names of all her children, and adopted it as his alter ego in his work.
