The Resume

    (September 3, 1992- )
    Born in New Orleans, Louisiana
Birth name is August Anthony Alsina, Jr.
R&B, Hip-Hop, and Rap recording artist
Started out on YouTube doing video covers of songs by Musiq Soulchild, Lyfe Jennings, and Lauryn Hill, generating millions of views
Signed with Def Jam Records in 2013
Best known singles include 'I Luv This Shit,' 'Ghetto,' 'Numb,' 'Make it Home,' 'Kissin' on My Tattoos,' 'Get Ya Money,' and 'No Love'
Debut Extended Play Album, 'Downtown Under the Gun,' released on August 20, 2013
Debut Studio Album, 'Testimony,' released April 15, 2014
Hospitalized for six weeks with exhaustion/dehydration after collapsing and falling offstage during a concert in New York City (Sept. 15, 2014)
Announced on Instagram that he had gone blind in his left eye and was beginning to lose sight in his right, resulting in his undergoing Corrective Eye Laser Surgery (May 15, 2015)
Accused of sexual assault, on social media, after groping the breasts of a fan brought onstage during one of his concerts (Sept. 25, 2015)

Why he might be annoying:

He auditioned for a role in 'Straight Outta Compton.'
He discovered the concept of 'YouTube celebrity' searching for videos of local fights online.
He has a tattoo of a Voodoo doll on his left arm & the word 'Myoozik' (Music) tattooed on his neck.
He is known for causing disturbances at his own concerts, often making his fans visibly uncomfortable.
He has made scenes on at least two occasions over the loss of his hat while performing at concerts, on one occasion provoking a riot involving security guards tasing attendees until it was returned.
He went public with his beef with Trey Songz, cancelling a joint tour with him citing Songz's 'ego,' and then refused to further discuss it in interviews.
An awkward exchange between him and Keshia Chante on BET's 106 & Park went viral when the host violated his contractual terms to ask if he would seek to 'bury the hatchet' with Trey.
Alsina proceeded to glare intimidatingly at her, disdainfully replying 'so you just gon' go against the grain and go against everything that I just- I just told y'all not to ask me that shit, when I got up in here,' flatly refusing to answer (she walked off the stage minutes later).
A video of him getting into a heated confrontation with an NC Music Factory club promoter and yelling 'don't play with me!' received close to 100,000 hits on YouTube (Sept. 2014).
A backstage brawl captured by TMZ, between his entourage and Loose Cannon Slim's, also went viral with more than 700,000 hits, allegedly depicting Slim being kicked; ironically, taking place at a Non-Violence event in St. Louis (Jan. 19, 2015).
He fired back at critics who accused him of sexual harassment on Twitter, taunting '[Shout out] 2 that beautiful young lady. & to you ignorant muf—as & weak ass blogs..TRY AGAIN! Christmas is near, I’ll buy you all toys to play [with].'

Why he might not be annoying:

His brother was murdered in an unsolved New Orleans shooting.
He carries an emotional attachment to his baseball cap, as it was a gift from his late brother before he died (which would explain his being upset about it being lost or stolen).
Both his father and stepfather dealt with substance abuse problems (the former dying when August was only 14).
His early YouTube fame came to a halt when his best friend was shot in the streets of Houston, at which point he quit (most likely from depression).
He narrowly avoided the devastation of Hurricane Katrina when his mother moved him to Houston, although members of his family were snared by the flooding and rendered temporarily homeless.
He was homeless as a teenager, sleeping on the floor of local corner stores (the owners occasionally gave him gumbo to eat).
He apologized to Keshia Chante both privately and in public, citing a lack of media training.
He developed a sizable fan base for his humor, his ability to 'keep it real' and his brutal honesty.
'I Love This Shit' ranked #1 on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Chart—a feat unaccomplished by an R&B debut single in 4 years (2013).
'Testimony' was the #1 debut album/R&B album, as well as #2 overall album on the Billboard Top 200 (2014).
He spent three days in a coma and six days being treated for seizures after collapsing onstage.
He was sued by a groupie who claimed that his 'proof of manhood' allegedly ruptured her cervix (draw your own conclusion...)
He paid his respects to the late Sandra Bland, tweeting 'Hate to see the way you had to leave. I pray for peace, justice & comfort for u and your family. bleSs #RestSandraBland.'
