TV Series
    (October 29, 1990-December 25, 1995)
    Originally aired on BBC
    Patricia Routledge as Hyacinth Bucket
    Clive Swift as Richard Bucket
    Geoffrey Hughes as Onslow
    Judy Cornwall as Daisy
Shirley Stelfox as Rose #1 (1990)
    Mary Millar as Rose#2 (1991-95)
Josephine Tewson as Elizabeth Hawksworth Warden
David Griffin as Emmet Hawksworth (1991-95)
    Jeremy Gittins as the Vicar
    Set in an English suburb
Premise: A middle-class would-be socialite tries to climb her way up the social ladder
Hyacinth wanted her last name to be pronounce ‘bouquet.’
‘Bouquet’ is an irony considering she is prejudiced against other races.
    She thinks she can sing.
All four sisters were names after flowers: Hyancinth, Rose, Daisy, and Violet.
They changed the actress for Rose after one year.
The show seemed to trivialize rape. Hyacinth escaped attempted rape several times, but never pressed charges.
Just like in ‘Cheers’ and ‘Frasier,' there was an unseen character, Sheridan Bucket.
Hyacinth was oblivious to Sheridan’s homosexuality.
Rose dressed and acted like a prostitute.
    Richard was too uxorious.
Although it is a Britcom, the show could give non-British viewers the idea that English people are snobs.
Onslow’s TV was old, but functional, in its unique way.
You had to slam the top of the TV to turn it on.
To change a channel, you had to first slam the top then slam the side.
Hyacinth probably grew up in the lower class before marrying Richard.
Richard sets a good example for car owners by keeping his old car as good as new.
The show satirized British culture and obsession with class status.
