Why Iowa City, Iowa might be annoying:

It has a notoriously large hippie population.
The state capitol was moved from here to Des Moines (1857).
It is home to one of the biggest party schools in the country.
Since so many of the city's cultural opportunities and events are tied to the university, it gets boring when school is not in session.
It is fairly isolated, with the nearest major city (unless you count Des Moines) being a three and a half hour drive.

Why Iowa City, Iowa might not be annoying:

It is tied with Stamford, Connecticut as the best-educated city in the country.
It was the first city to elect a female mayor and a Jewish mayor.
The original capitol building is still located there, intact and serves as a museum.
Forbes magazine ranked it as the best small city in the United States (2004).
It is home to a number of award-winning literary programs.
