    Began as a 100 acre tract purchased by two colonels and a major
    Village of Rochesterville founded in 1817

Why Rochester, New York might be annoying:

    Founder Colonel Nathaniel Rochester named it after himself.
    Its population began plummeting in the mid 1900s.
    Several locally founded corporations such as Western Union moved their headquarters to other cities.
    Its subway closed in 1956 after running for only 29 years.
    It was the site of the first of several violent American race riots in the 1960s.
    It is home to the ‘garbage plate’ special, a combination of hamburger, eggs, macaroni salad, French fries and ketchup, among other ingredients.

    It was the United States’ first boomtown.
    Abolitionist Frederick Douglass, suffragette Susan B. Anthony and labor activist Emma Goldman all lived here.
    It has the biggest economy in New York, next to New York City's.

    It has the largest deaf population in the US and is the site of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
    It is home to Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch & Lomb, leading to its nickname ‘The World’s Image Center.’
