Produced and directed the documentary 'Homeless in America' (2004)
He deliberately obscures much of his background.
'The Room' became famous for its out of focus shots, bad greenscreen effects, dropped subplots and over the top acting.
Variety described him as 'a narcissist nonpareil whose movie makes Vincent Gallo's 'The Brown Bunny' seem the apotheosis of cinematic self-restraint.'
After 'The Room' became a cult film, he claimed the 'unintentional' humor of the film is really deliberate, but most viewers doubt it.
Entertainment Weekly referred to his 'Ed Wood-like innocence and enthusiasm for movie making.'
He frequently attends midnight screenings of 'The Room' and holds Q&A sessions with the audience before the film starts.
Fans of the film's so-bad-it's-good vibe include Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and Kristen Bell.
'The Room' was referenced in an episode of Veronica Mars: 'It's like the new 'Rocky Horror.' At one point, people throw spoons at the screen... You have to check it out.... It'll change your life.'
