    He launched a military-backed challenge to President Nicolas Maduro, summoning thousands of people to the streets to demonstrate against his administration.
    The action resulted in violent clashes with many supporters getting injured by rubber bullets, tear gas, and live ammo in riots across Venezuela.
    He was born one of seven children.
    He and his family survived the Vargas flash floods, in 1999, which killed thousands.
    He met his wife while she was volunteering for the Voluntad Popular party.
    He was mentored by Opposition leader and political prisoner Leopoldo Lopez.
    He has supported calls to deliver outside humanitarian aid to Venezuela.
