Why he might be annoying:

He never lived up to his potential.
He showed up late to training camp in 1998, because he felt better time could be spent with a personal trainer.
He claimed that he could not be motivated enough to play well, despite earning baseball's highest contract (1998).
He said that he would quit (as per what a general manager said), if they send the checks to his house.
He complained about being traded to the Dodgers because of paying higher income tax.
He compared his World Series champion Florida Marlins to The Bad News Bears.
When taken out of a 1999 game, he changed into his civilian clothes and watched the rest of the game.
He and Salt N' Pepa skipped out of their checks at a bar in 1998.
He often contradicts himself.

He removed gold inlays in his teeth in his rookie year to give a better image to young fans.
He was baseball's highest paid player during the 1998 season.

Despite needing shoulder surgery, he said that the Yankees paid him a lot money and he played with pain rather than take the year off (2004).
