Why he might be annoying:

He shares his name with Bangles bassist Michael Steele.
Like many politicians, he exudes arrogance and self-righteousness.
He ran for Maryland's open United States Senate seat, but lost (2006).
At the 2008 Republican Convention, he was the one who originated the phrase 'Drill, baby, drill.'
Critics say he was selected as RNC chairman because of his race (after Democrat Barack Obama was elected President).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first African-American to chair the RNC.
He was class president at Johns Hopkins University.
He earned a law degree from Georgetown University.
Compared to his numerous neo-conservative counterparts, some of his positions are moderate.
He was inspired to enter politics by Ronald Reagan.
