Why he might be annoying:

He goes by three names.
He is sometimes credited as Bill Blatty.
He has seven children.
No matter what else he does he will almost only be known as the writer of the 'Exorcist.'
He made Linda Blair a star.
Horror writer, Stephen King, is not impressed by Blatty and in his 'Danse Macabre,' he wrote 'Blatty has fallen silent... forever, if we are lucky. (1981)'
The Exorcist scene with Regan MacNeil masturbating with a crucifix was censored in the U.K.

His movie, 'The Exorcist,' is still considered one of the scariest movies of all times.
He was a contestant on 'You Bet Your Life.'
His father left the family when William was six.
He lived in nearly thirty different locations as a child.
He attended a Catholic grammar school and Jesuit high school.
He earned his English lit masters degree at George Washington University.
As a member of the USAF, he was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon which was the country of his ancestors.
The Exorcist sold 13,000,000 copies in the U.S. alone (1971).
He became interested in Exorcism while studying at Georgetown, when he read of a local fourteen year old boy being exorcised in Maryland (1949).
He, however based the Exorcist on other historical cases, especially one performed in 1928.
