    Wrote the plays ‘The Sullen Lovers’ (1668), 'Epsom Wells’ (1672) and ‘The Squire of Alsatia’ (1677)
    Poet Laureate (1688-92)

    He left Cambridge University without a degree.
    He only became poet laureate because John Dryden was fired for being Catholic.
    Dryden called him ‘The King of Dullness.’
    He may have died by overdosing on opium.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He wrote a play a year for 14 years.
    He initiated the tradition of having the Poet Laureate write annual odes for New Year’s and the monarch’s birthday.
