The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He failed the entrance exam for Sandhurst military academy.
He liked to boast that he read only one book in his life, Jack London's 'White Fang.'
He was prone to sudden fits of rage.
He would keep his foxhounds in shape by occasionally letting them chase after his youngest children.
He refused to let his daughters go to school because he worried that they would be forced to play field hockey and develop thick calves, thus ruining their marital prospects.
He was a poor money manager and frequently found himself in financial difficulties.
After accompanying Unity and Diana to the Nuremberg Rally, he joined in their enthusiasm for Hitler and became a supporter of appeasement towards Nazi Germany.

Why he might not be annoying:

Serving in the Boer War, he was wounded three times and lost a lung.
He was taken prisoner by the Boers but escaped.
He served in World War I and was cited for bravery during the Second Battle of Ypres.
With the start of World War II, he recanted his support for Hitler.
He was said to have never recovered from his only son, Tom, being killed by a sniper in Burma during WWII.
Despite his claims, he actually read most of Nancy's novels -- despite being caricatured as eccentric 'Uncle Matthew' in a couple of them.
