The Resume

    (June 16, 1917-July 17, 2001)
Born in New York City, New York
    Birth name was Katharine Meyer
Publisher of the Washington Post (1963-79) and Newsweek
Wrote the autobiography 'Personal History' (1997)

Why she might be annoying:

She spent the first half of her life as a self-described 'doormat wife.'
She first began working as a writer at the Post after her father bought the paper (1933).
When her husband Phil Graham took over the Post (1945) she ended her writing career to concentrate on her family's home life.
Six years after taking over the Post, she said, 'I think a man would be better at this job I'm in than a woman.'

Why she might not be annoying:

Despite no previous publishing experience, she salvaged the faltering Post after her husband's suicide (1963) and turned it into one of the nation's most respected newspapers.
For many years, she was the only female head of a Fortune 500 company.
She resisted government pressure and made the final decision to publish the Pentagon Papers and Woodward and Bernstein's Watergate coverage.
She received a Pulitzer Prize for 'Personal History.'
