The Resume

    (1975- )
    Ammon Edward Bundy
    Car fleet manager
Son of famed Nevada cattle rancher, Cliven Bundy
Resides in Emmett Idaho (formerly Phoenix, Arizona)
Self-proclaimed leader of the advocacy group, ‘Citizens for Constitutional Freedom’
Joined his father in several armed confrontations with federal officials and law enforcement over a dispute with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regarding grazing rights, better known as the infamous ‘Bundy Standoff’ (April, 2014)
Gained national attention for leading the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge ('the Oregon Standoff'), taking over the government complex south of Malheur Lake, demanding that the federal government cede ownership of the refuge to local authorities (Jan. 2, 2016)
Protest took form in response to the pending imprisonment of Oregon ranchers, Dwight and Steven Hammond, convicted of burning federal land in 2001 and 2006
Arrested along with seven other members of the armed group, following a shootout which reportedly killed one protester (Jan. 26, 2016)

Why he might be annoying:

He basked in the Fox News Channel-generated media circus that surrounded his family's 2014 legal troubles with the feds.
He moved to capitalize on the Hammonds' prison sentence, despite not having the blessing of the Hammond family (who voluntarily reported to serve their jail sentence).
He claimed that God had spoken to him and urged him to both intercede in the Hammond's legal case and retake the Wildlife Refuge for 'the people' (even if the move could endanger the Hammonds' appeal for clemency).
He also lacked his famous father's backing, who denied any involvement and told reporters that his son's approach 'is not exactly what should happen.'
The protest was staged shortly after the President's controversial signing of an Executive Order on Gun Control legislation, leading many to believe it was a direct response to a potential gun grab (but he had been planning the occupation since 2014).
He frequently poses for photo ops with anti-BLM décor. Glory be if no one mistakes that for anti-Black Lives Matter merchandise!
He posted a Facebook video calling for other 'freedom loving people' to come to Oregon to join the orchestrated protest, insisting that they could very well occupy the land for years (telling them to 'come prepared' in another video).
He claimed that his militia consisted of close to 150 (varying reports assess the number to be closer to 20-40).
He headed off an armed protest to demand that the Wildlife Refuge be turned over to local authorities, and proposes to speak for a movement that only recognizes the County Sheriff's office as the 'law of the land.'
Despite this, when he and his fellow militia members were repeatedly asked, and later ordered, by presiding Harney County Sheriff David Ward to leave the premises, he refused insisting that the Sheriff didn't speak for the county as a whole (although county locals reported incidents of harassment by the militiamen).
Unlike his family's widely publicized 2014 'standoff,' the protest ended with violent confrontations with federal authority, rather than peaceful negotiation with law enforcement.
Although far from being another Waco or Ruby Ridge, a shootout between the militants and state troopers left one militant, LaVoy Finicum, dead and Ammon's brother, Ryan, injured.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is named for a famous missionary in The Book of Mormon.
He lost his home to foreclosure in 2012.
He was tasered by federal agents and threatened with police dogs during the Bundy Standoff.
Prior to 2014, his only known legal offense was a traffic ticket.
He initially had talks with Sheriff Ward about staging non-violent protests.
Outrage ensued when a fake Twitter account bearing his name tweeted a message comparing 'himself' to Rosa Parks; the mistake was later corrected (although some protesters insisted the comparison had merit).
Still smarting from the last time they publicly embraced a self-destructive insurrectionist with a penchant for saying wacky things, conservative media outlets were comparably more even-handed and cautious in their coverage of the armed protests.
He had several awkward exchanges with a diva-like Megyn Kelly during a televised interview (now he knows how Donald Trump feels!)
He suffers from the double bind of sharing a surname with a notorious serial killer and a misanthropic shoe salesman with toxic body odor.
That his and his family's assorted escapades with the law read like a bad No MA'AM episode of Married With Children doesn't do much to ease the irony.
He shared a message through his attorney with the remaining occupiers at the refuge, reading: 'To those remaining at the refuge, I love you. Let us take this fight from here. Please stand down... Go home and hug your families. This fight is ours for now in the courts. Please go home' (Jan. 26, 2016).
