TV Series
    (January 27, 2009- )
    Reality documentary television series
    Originally aired on TLC
Premise: A controversial and glorified look at child beauty pageants and the families and children involved with them
Remember what happened to JonBenet Ramsey?
Some of the parents go through ridiculous lengths just to make their child extra beautiful.
In one episode, a mother insults her child by telling her that she looks ugly because the girl lost the pageant!
Psychologists warned that the girls would suffer from low self esteem in later years because they were forced to be constantly concerned about their appearance.
Some TV critics complained that the children dress like whores.
The promiscuous style and manner the girls are dressed may lure child rapists and pedophiles to watch the show.
A controversial episode showed Jeanie Alcalar yanking her daughter off the floor as the girl cried that she did not want her hair done.
This led the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to suspend the license of Jeanie Alcalar of Thrall, Texas to run her day care center, Hippo Academy.
The show became a ratings hit for network TLC.
The show airs without any narration in order to avoid passing judgment.
The show was spoofed in a skit featuring actor Tom Hanks during an episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.'
