Infomercial Personality

The Resume

    (February 6, 1963- )
Hosted/Produced infomercials for 'Kevin Trudeau's Mega Memory,' 'Dr. Callahan's Addiction Breaking System,' 'Eden's Secret Nature's Purifying Product,' 'Howard Berg's Mega Reading' 'Sable Hair Farming System' and 'Jeanie Eller's reading system'

Why he might be annoying:

He was sued by the FTC and was fined over $1,000,000 for false or unsubstantiated claims (1998).
The Sable Hair farming system claimed it would end human baldness forever, it didn't.
He claimed his memory system would give anyone a photographic memory, but it doesn't. He claimed that within five days recall ability would increase 15% to 90%.
He claimed 100% success with Jeanie Eller's reading program but could not substantiate it.
He disguises his infomericals as programs, and even refers to old infomericals as legitimate TV shows. For example, he shows clips claiming he was a guest on the 'Danny Bonaduce Show,' but it was actually one of his infomercials.
The FTC found Eden's Purifying product did not offer the benefits claimed of curing PMS, causing weight loss and improving the colon.
The addiction Breaking system was a video tape telling the viewer to mimic the gestures made by Dr. Callahan and it would cure any addiction. The FTC found it to be worthless.
In the Mega Reading infomercial, Howard Berg claimed the a brain damaged girl using his system during a coffee break increased her speed from three words a minute to 10 words a second (that would be a 20,000% improvement). He was unable to produce this girl.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is clean cut and makes sure people on his infomercial are likewise.
Although the claims made in his mega memory system were found to offer a high expectation, he has lowered the claims and still offers it to the public. He has lowered the price from $200 to $50.
Part of his FTC settlement agreement is that any infomercial lasting 15 minutes or more must say it is a 'Paid Advertisement.'
Evidently, he makes a lot of money with these products because he still sells them, but has toned down specific claims.
