Why he might be annoying:

His character is inspired by 'les Diables Bleus,' a group of soldiers who fought for France during World War I, while the country practically got levelled by the Germans.
He was rejected by the cheerleaders when he was first introduced as the mascot.
He's poorly shaven in the chin area.
He has a hook nose.

Why he might not be annoying:

The cheerleaders eventually accepted him as their leader and he even bagged a few of the easy ones.
He represents patriotism.
He's the mascot for one of the most prestigious athletic colleges in the United States.
