    She had a hallux injury at the 1993 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships that kept her out of skiing for four months.
    After she had an operation, her performance in the 1994 Winter Olympics was uneven and she ignored her physician's advice as she went on to more skiing competitions.
    She lit the 2006 Winter Olympic torch at the opening ceremony.
    She enjoys reading, motorbiking, and walking in the mountains.
    She speaks French, Italian and English fluently.
    She won the Olympic Gold Medal (2002) in the 15 km event despite one of her two ski poles breaking with 4.5 km left to go.
    She had jobs as a forest ranger and a teacher.
    She was the first female skier to win the 30km event in the Winter Olympics, the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and Holmenkollen.
