    On the eve of the 1974 World Series, he got into a fight with Rollie Fingers that left him with a sprained ankle and fingers, and needing stitches in his head.
    He threatened to kill his wife, held her at gunpoint in their apartment, and refused to surrender until police lobbed four cannisters of tear gas through the window (1985).
    He was convicted of selling cocaine (1986) and served 55 days in jail.
    He was part of the A's dynasty that won three consecutive World Series (1972-74).
    He had a 1.07 ERA in his 10 post-season appearances.
    He said of his troubles, 'What happened in the past probably happened for the best. It made a better man out of me.'
