Why he might be annoying
His slogans included 'Violence is as American as cherry pie' and 'If America don't come around, we're gonna burn it down.'
He spent five years in prison for robbery, assault and weapons charges (1971-76).
He was convicted (2002) of killing deputy Ricky Kinchen in a shootout with police (March 16, 2000).
After Kinchen collapsed, Brown walked over and shot him three times in the groin.
His supporters tried to undermine the case, but never explained why he fled the state after the shooting, how his car ended up with bullet holes, or why the weapons from the shootout were found at the same location where he was arrested.
Why he might not be annoying
He was shot after addressing a civil rights rally in Cambridge, Maryland (1967).
He founded a mosque in Atlanta (1983) and crusaded against drugs and prostitution.
Another man, Otis Jackson, initially confessed to shooting Kinchen.
