The Resume

    (May 27, 1884-December 20, 1968)
    Born in Prague, Czech Republic
    Journalist and novelist
Wrote 'Nornepygge Castle' (1908), 'The Redemption of Tycho Brahe' (1916), 'Paganism, Christianity, Judaism: A Confession' (1921), 'Three Loves' (1927) and Franz Kafka: A Biography' (1937)

Why he might be annoying:

His own literary works are overshadowed by his friendship with Kafka.
His Kafka biography was described as showing a 'lack of any deep understanding of Kafka's life.'
A later biographer said one of the great mysteries of Kafka's life was his 'choice of such a Philistine for a friend.'
He left unclear instructions for the disposition of his and Kafka's papers, leading to a drawn-out legal battle between the National Library of Israel and the daughters of his secretary.

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was four, he spent a year strapped into a harness to correct a life-threatening spinal curvature.
He ignored Kafka's request in his will to burn his papers and instead arranged for posthumous publication of his novels 'The Trial,' 'The Castle' and 'Amerika.'
He noted that Kafka had made the same request while alive and he had warned Kafka that he would not carry out this wish.
He fled Prague with a suitcase of Kafka's papers on the last train before the Nazis closed the borders (1939).
