Why he might be annoying:

He first recorded as 'Terry Preston' to hide his rural roots.
When he began using his real name, he initially spelled it 'Huskey' before reverting to the original spelling.
He also recorded novelty songs under the name 'Simon Crum.'
He became the morning performer at Boxcar Willie's theater in Branson.
He said about his wait to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, 'Some of the people that vote are so young, I thought they'd never heard of me. I figured they thought Ferlin Husky was some kind of disease.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II and received a citation for his actions under fire during the D-Day landings.
'Gone' and 'Wings of a Dove' both topped the country chart for 10 weeks, crossed over to the pop Top 20, and were certified gold with sales of over one million records.
His son Danny died in a car crash (1970).
He frequently helped out up and coming talents, such as Buck Owens. ('I dressed him up, putting some decent clothes on him, and got him with Capitol Records.')
Merle Haggard said, 'There were a lot of years when nobody in the business could follow him. He was the big live act of the day. A great entertainer.'
