Why they might be annoying:

They were one-hit wonders.
Their third album was assembled using outtakes from the previous two albums after the band disintegrated.
'Ride Captain Ride' is sometimes said to be about the capture of the USS Pueblo by North Korea, but the band denied it. (Also, the Pueblo had a crew of 82 rather than the '73 men' of the song's opening line.)
Pinera later said the opening line was inspired by the Rhodes 73-Stage Piano.

Why they might not be annoying:

In an interview with 'Melody Maker,' Jimi Hendrix called them 'one of the best up and coming bands around.'
'Ride Captain Ride' made the Billboard Top 5 and earned a gold record.
After the band broke up, Pinera played with Iron Butterfly and Alice Cooper, Konte joined Three Dog Night and Lala performed with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
'Ride Captain Ride' was featured in the film 'Anchorman.'
