    (October 12, 1904-March 11, 1959)
    Born in La Plata, Missouri
Creator and author of the 'Doc Savage' series of pulp fiction novels
His books had a lot of goofy gadgets in them.
He endorsed the brainwashing of criminals using surgery if necessary.
The Doc Savage books were almost self-parodying from the beginning.
He was forced by his publisher to use the pen name Kenneth Robeson and received credit as author for only one of the Doc Savage books.
He wrote only four books other than Doc Savage.
The movie 'Doc Savage: Man of Bronze' and an episode of the TV series 'Wagon Train' are his only works to be filmed.
He is one of the most successful and popular authors of all time.
He was quite the adventurer is his spare time; sailor, mountain climber, pilot, and would often work at a blue collar job during the day and write at night. Being six foot two and 200 plus pounds he didn't hear many jokes about being a sissy writer.
In 1926, he was making $500 a month, and in 1932, $750 a month as a writer, both incredible sums for writers at the time.
He wrote 161 of the 181 Doc Savage books. Usually taking a month per book.
He went to a one room school house growing up.
He was a college graduate and started out as a telegraph operator, and later, instructor.
Doc Savage has been the inspiration of innumerable other fictional characters including; Jonny Quest's Race Bannon character, Indiana Jones, James Bond, and Batman.
