Why they might be annoying
It was originally spelled Greensborough (1808-1895).
The city was built around a courthouse.
Its namesake Major General Nathanael Greene actually lost the battle in that area to the British (March 15, 1781).
The land was purchased for $98.
It is nicknamed the 'Gate City.'
The city left the United States to join the Confederacy.
4 black college students staged a sit in at Woolworth's all-white lunch counter (February 1, 1960). This launched many other sit-in civil rights protests
Violence erupted when when a Communist Workers Party rally brought protestors from the Ku Klux Klan and a neo-Nazi group (November 3, 1979). 5 members of the CWP were killed and it became known as the Greensboro Massacre (November 3, 1979).
The all-white jury acquitted all the KKK and Nazi members that were brought to trial.
It has a higher than average crime rate.
