    (November 8, 1931-May 19, 2016)
    Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
    Correspondent for '60 Minutes' (December 1970-May 2016)
Previously worked as CBS News' London Bureau Chief and with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)
Author of 'Flashbacks: On Returning to Vietnam'
He had several awkward years during his tenure with CBC after resigning from the network's 'Newsmagazine' program.
He drew the ire of President Johnson when he reported the U.S. Marines had burned the undefended Vietnamese village Cam Ne.
His integrity was tarnished when the New York Times exposed a few strongly worded e-mails he'd sent as a member of the Century Association.
He dropped out of the University of Western Ontario.
His relationship with Mike Wallace was reportedly quarrel-filled.
He won 12 Emmy Awards, 3 Peabody Awards and numerous other honors.
His report on the Cam Ne burning was credited with helping to start the shift of the American public's view on the Vietnam War.
In 1983, his featured story on engineer Lenell Geter, who was wrongly convicted of armed robbery, resulted in Geter's life sentence being overturned.
On why he never officially became an American citizen, he said that a journalist should be 'stateless.'
In an era where the line between news and opinion was being constantly blurred, he was considered as one of the last true journalists from the 'golden age' of unbiased news reporting.
