The Resume

    (January 16, 1971-September 1978)
    Aired in syndication
    Hosted by Jed Allan
Premise: two teams competed in ‘best ball’ bowling to win prizes for audience members
To start a frame, each celeb would bowl on their lane
If neither bowler got a strike, the player who rolled the worse frame would attempt to pick up a spare on their partner’s lane
Each team played for a member of the studio audience
Increasingly valuable prizes were awarded when a team scored 120, 150, 180, or 210 points

Why Celebrity Bowling might be annoying:

To fit the games into a half-hour slot, a couple of frames (usually the sixth and seventh) were edited out.
Oddly, the celebrities – who presumably were the reason the audience were watching – were not miked, so you could not hear their comments.
The team of Charles Nelson Reilly and Robert Clary combined for an all-time low of 66, failing to win any prizes.
It inadvertently created a time capsule of hideous 70s fashions.
Attempts to revive it have been short lived.

Why Celebrity Bowling might not be annoying:

It was inspired by a 90-minute special that raised money for charity, ‘The Celebrity Bowling Classic.’
There was something oddly compelling about seeing if William Shatner could pick up a split.
The team of Michael Cole and Tige Andrews scored 266, becoming the only celebs to win the top prize (a new car) for their audience member.
It lasted eight seasons, while Celebrity Boxing bit the dust after two episodes.
