Why he might be annoying:

Many critics said his stats weren't good enough to warrant a huge 7 year contract with the Mets.
He was willing to sign with the Astros for less money, but they didn't agree to a no-trade clause.
Even the Yankees couldn't afford his asking price.
He was suspended by the Royals in 2000 for refusing to enter rehabilitation for a knee injury.
He is considered moody and not a team leader.
His agent Scott Boras over hypes players and over-inflates their value.
He is often confused with Dodger/Mariner slugger Adrian Beltre.
He parted ways with the New York Mets before his first game as the team's manager due to his role in the 2017 Houston Astros cheating scandal (January 16, 2020).

Why he might not be annoying:

He's considered a 'five-tool' player.
He hit 8 home runs in 12 games in the 2004 playoffs.
He's the only player in baseball history to have 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases, 100 runs scored, and 100 RBIs in 4 straight seasons.
He does considerable charity work in his native Puerto Rico.
