Why they might be annoying:

There were all sorts of horror stories surrounding the band.
Lead vocalist Dead killed himself in 1991 by shooting himself in the head. Reportedly, Hellhammer wore some of his skull fragments as a necklace and Euronymous supposedly cooked pieces of his brain. Most of their lyrics and imagery had blatant references to Satanism.
The band's original bassist, Count Grishnackh (now of Buzum) stabbed guitarist Euronymous to death in 1993, supposedly over an argument about satanism and viking heritage.
Ever since Euronymous' death, they've had several vocalists('Atilla'?'Maniac'?).

Why they might not be annoying:

Two of their major musical influences were Slayer and Bathory. They influenced Emperor and Cradle of Filth.
Even though they've had numerous line-up changes, they're still recording music almost 20 years after they first formed.
