The Resume

    (September 15, 1921-August 11, 2017)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Birth name was Gordon Stanley Ostiere
    Doctor turned author
Best known for a series of humorous novels set at St. Swithin’s, a fictional teaching hospital, beginning with ‘Doctor in the House’ (1952)

Why he might be annoying:

He called himself an entertainer rather than a writer because, ‘Writers are chaps who turn out books that mean something.’
As the ‘Doctor’ series went on, the books drew less on his experience as a doctor and relied more on slapstick and sexual innuendo.
During a live broadcast of the British version of This Is Your Life, he spotted host Eamonn Andrews approaching him, shouted ‘Oh, balls,’ and ran off (1974).
He ultimately agreed to a taped interview that ran a week later.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had been a ship’s surgeon, an anesthesiologist, and an assistant editor of the British Medical Journal before becoming an author.
He also wrote medical textbooks under his own name.
The ‘Doctor’ books were adapted into a popular series of movies; he wrote the screenplays for the first two films.
When ‘Doctor in the House’ was adapted as a television series (1969), the pilot episode was written by future Pythons Graham Chapman and John Cleese,
