Why he might be annoying:

He said, 'I am a dreamer, a writer. Framing rules and so on makes my head ache.'
His administrations were plagued by corruption.
His decision to have Buddhism made the official state religion alienated the country's Christian and Islamic minorities.
He frequently scheduled events based on the advice of astrologers.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was also a novelist, playwright and Buddhist monk.
When he left office in 1958, he gave away most of his belongings except for clothes.
Jawaharal Nehru said, 'The most immediately impressive thing about Nu is his radiant personality -- it wins him friends wherever he goes.'
As of 2010, he is the only democratically elected leader of Burma.
