Why he might be annoying:

His success was limited due to his heavy drug usage.
He was addicted to cocaine, which lead to disputes with George Clinton.
In 1974, he was indicted for assaulting a stewardess, along with a drug possession charge.
George Clinton had to suspend his salary so that he would not spend the money entirely on drugs.
The term 'Maggot Brain' refers to his incredible intake of various drugs.
He sometimes received credit for contributions as Grace Cook, his mother's name.

Why he might not be annoying:

He sang in churches at a young age.
He occupied himself from a young age by playing guitar and trying to learn all the early-'60s Motown hits.
He pioneered an innovative funk-metal sound in the early '70s.
'Maggot Brain' is considered a landmark album.
During the recording of the title track of 'Maggots Brain,' George Clinton told him to 'play like your momma just died' and the result was the epic sounds of his guitar.
He died from internal bleeding and liver failure after a long struggle with stomach problems.
He influenced Lenny Kravitz, John Frusciante, Tom Morello, Slash, and the Beastie Boys.
The band Ween recorded a tribute to him called 'A Tear for Eddie' on their album 'Chocolate And Cheese.'
