Recorded the albums 'Victor Jara (Geografia)' (1966), 'Canciones Folkloricas de America' (1967), 'Victor Jara' (1967), 'Pongo En Tus Manos Abiertas' (1969), 'Cantos Libre' (1970), 'El Derecho de Vivir en Paz' (1971), 'La Poblacion' (1972), 'Canto Por Travesura' (1973) and 'Manifesto' (1974)

Why he might be annoying:

He joined a seminary to become a priest, but dropped out after becoming disillusioned with the Catholic Church.
He praised the Soviet Union after touring the country.
He wrote tributes to Che Guevara and Chilean Communist Party founder Luis Recabarren.
He railed against foreign capitalists, but his records have been reissued by Time-Warner.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father left the family when he was a child and his mother died when he was 15.
After President Salvador Allende was overthrown in a coup, he was one of thousands of Allende supporters arrested and held at Estadio Chile.
Over a four-day period, he was beaten and tortured, and his hands and ribs were broken.
When his captors mockingly asked him to play guitar for them, he defiantly sang a pro-Allende song.
He wrote a last poem about conditions in the stadium, which was smuggled out by a friend.
After his murder, the Pinochet regime banned his songs from the radio and burned the master tapes of his albums.
Pete Seeger said, 'As long as we sing his songs, as long as his courage can inspire us to greater courage, Victor Jara will never die.'
