    (August 27, 1965- )
Born in Los Angeles , California
Birth name is Gabriel Eduardo Gomez
    Private equity investor and politician
Former Navy SEAL and Aircraft Carrier Pilot
Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in the 2013 special election in Massachusetts to replace U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry
Defeated by U.S. Representative Ed Markey
He tried to rip off the Scott Brown image with a barn jacket and a pickup truck.
He neither saw combat as a Navy SEAL nor had served in more than 15 years, but his Senate campaign revolved around his being a Navy SEAL.
He flip-flopped on the issue of gun control repeatedly.
He was inconsistent in his debate performances.
He sought the Republican nomination despite having a record of making donations to prominent Democrats and Barack Obama's Presidential campaign.
He shamelessly imitated Scott Brown, but tried to play down any similarities in their political views, at one point telling the press, 'I'm not Scott Brown.'
He was spokesman for a campaign criticizing President Obama for releasing details related to the death of Osama Bin Laden..
He tried to jump on the Right's blanket amnesty bandwagon in a vein attempt to win the Hispanic vote, openly saying that he wanted to make Sen. Marco Rubio's 'Senate Gang of Eight a Gang of Nine.'
The strategy backfired, neither attracting Hispanic voters nor endearing him to conservative Republican voters. He lost to Rep. Ed Markey by a whopping ten points.
Prior to his Senate Campaign, his only previous experience in public service was his last place defeat in a 2003 failed candidacy for Cohassett Selectman.
An ethics complaint was filed against him with the Senate Select Committee on Ethics for allegedly failing to disclose clients while working for the private equity firm Advent International (May 2013).
He burned his bridges with the Right when he wrote a Facebook post addressing two conservative activists reading 'the level of ignorance and intolerance exhibited by them and their small ‘Klan’ are an embarrassment to our civil society. Merry Christmas' (Dec. 2013).
He initially refused to apologize, stating that he did not regret writing the post and feigning ignorance about the spelling of the word 'Klan' as being a reference to the Ku Klux Klan.
    His parents were Colombian immigrants.
He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.
He helped to win the Washington state tennis championship for Eisenhower High School in 1983.
He graduated with merit with an engineering degree from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1987.
He is one of the only people in American history to serve as both an Aircraft Carrier Pilot and a Navy SEAL.
As a United States Naval Aviator, he flew E-2C Hawkeyes and C-2A Greyhounds off aircraft carriers.
He ran the 2013 Boston Marathon, finishing a good hour before the bombing took place (April 15, 2013).
Had he won the special election, he would have made history as the first Hispanic-American to represent Massachusetts in the Senate, and as the first Colombian-American to hold a Senate seat in any state.
He met his wife while he was deployed as a platoon leader on the Island of Saint Lucia (she was working as a Peace Corps volunteer on the nearby island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines).
