    (March 23, 1937-February 25, 2016)
    Born in Flint, Michigan
Portrayed Tony ‘Duke’ Evers in the Rocky film series
Portrayed Big Arthur in the TV series ‘Frank’s Place’ (1987-88)
Also appeared in the films ‘The Black Godfather’ (1974), ‘Assault on Precinct 13’ (1976), ‘The Shining’ (1980), ‘Stir Crazy’ (1980), ‘Hook’ (1991) and ‘House Party 2’ (1991)
He served three years in prison for armed robbery.
He got cast in ‘Rocky’ mainly because he shared an agent with Carl Weathers.
He claimed God initially told him to turn down the role in ‘Frank’s Place.’ (Perhaps explaining why most people in trying to find an occupation for God choose ‘co-pilot’ instead of ‘casting agent.’)
He was among those snubbed during the Oscar telecast by being omitted from the ‘In Memoriam’ segment.
While in high school, he was a Golden Gloves boxing champ and an all-state football halfback.
He earned his college diploma while in prison.
He was a life member of the Actors Studio.
His contract for ‘The Shining’ was supposed to last just a week, since he had only two short scenes, but he ended up staying for six weeks because he was the only person on the set who could provide director Stanley Kubrick with a challenge at chess.
Sylvester Stallone said that if he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Creed,’ he would dedicate the award to Burton. (Although the offer proved to be moot when Mark Rylance won for ‘Bridge of Spies.’)
