Why Annapolis, Maryland might be annoying
Much of its initial wealth was derived from the slave trade.
The slave ancestors of 'Roots' author Alex Haley were brought to the US through Annapolis.
A plaque to honor Haley was stolen after 48 hours and never recovered (1981).
It has been eclipsed commercially by Baltimore since the late 18th century.
A larger portion of its residents live in public housing than in any other American city its size.
Why Annapolis, Maryland might not be annoying
The state house here has been in use since 1779, making it the longest-used one in the US.
It served as capital of the United States (November 26, 1783-June 3, 1784).
It claims to have more 18th century buildings than any other US city.
It is home to the US Naval Academy.
