    Appeared in the films ‘The Last Picture Show’ (1971), ‘Paper Moon’ (1973), ‘Chinatown’ (1974), ‘Big Bad Mama’ (1974), ‘Norma Rae’ (1979), ‘The Howling’ (1981), ‘Good Morning, Vietnam’ (1987), ‘City Slickers’ (1991), ‘The Hudsucker Proxy’ (1994), ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ (1994), ‘City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold’ (1994), and ‘Up Close and Personal’ (1996)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was usually typecast as ‘good ol’ boys.’
    He left ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ to run as the Republican candidate for the House of Representatives from Texas’ 1st District. He lost to the incumbent, Rep. Max Sandlin (2000).
    The last film he appeared in, ‘Blind Horizon,’ was released posthumously (2004).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
    He earned a masters degree in educational psychology and taught economics at Sam Houston High School.
    His acting career began after the drama teacher at the school urged him to audition when Peter Bogdanovich shot ‘The Last Picture Show’ on location in Texas.
    He was the only actual Texan in the main cast of ‘Walker, Texas Ranger.’
    He left most of his TV residuals to Jarvis Christian College, a historically black college in northeastern Texas.
