Why North Carolina might be annoying
It is the home of many tobacco farms.
Temperatures range from -34ºF (-37ºC) (January 21, 1985) to 110ºF (43ºC) (August 21, 1983).
It had an NBA basketball team, the Charlotte Hornets (1988-2002), that moved to New Orleans.
Roanoke Island's governor went to England, when he returned the entire colony disappeared. What happened to it is still a mystery today (1590).
They refused to sign the Bill of Rights and constitution until all mentions of outlawing slavery was removed.
They were the eleventh and last state to secede from the Union (May 20, 1861).
Why North Carolina might not be annoying
The Wright Brothers flew the first viable heavier than air aircraft out of Kitty Hawk (1903).
Duke and The University of N.C. are perennial favorites in the NCAA basketball tournaments.
The TV series, 'Andy Griffith Show' and 'Mayberry RFD' were set in North Carolina.
Their NHL hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes (1997- ), are the former Boston/New England/Hartford Whalers.
They have an NFL football team, Carolina Panthers (1995- ) playing out of Charlotte, but played in S.C. in 1995.
Virginia Dare was the first child to be born in America of English parents.
They were the first colony to separate from England.
Andrew Johnson, Jesse Helms, Soupy Sales, Dian Parkinson, Jackee and Tori Amos were born in North Carolina.
The University of North Carolina is the first U.S. state university (February 13, 1795).
The North Carolina legislature passed an anti-Klan Law (April 12, 1869).
North Carolina was the first state to require registration of nurses (March 3, 1903).
