The Resume

    (February 14, 1955-December 12, 2014)
    Born in Miami Beach, Florida
First successful use of multiple personality disorder as a legal defense (1977)
Spent ten years in state-run mental hospitals (1978-88)
    Had 24 different personalities
Subject of the non-fiction novel 'The Minds of Billy Milligan' by Daniel Keyes (1981)

Why he might be annoying:

He was expelled from high school for disruptive behavior (1972).
He joined the Navy but was discharged within a month.
He was convicted of rape and sentenced to six months in a youth camp (1973).
He was convicted of robbing a drugstore and served two years in jail (1975-77).
During a two-week period, he kidnapped, robbed and raped three women on the campus of Ohio State University (October 14-26, 1977).
He was ruled incapable of handling his own affairs; during the hearing, he was jailed for threatening the judge (1996).
He declared bankruptcy, largely because of the state of Ohio demanding that he reimburse them $450,000 spent on his treatment (1999).
There is plenty of debate over whether multiple personalities really exist.

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was four, his father committed suicide.
He was allegedly raped and otherwise abused by his stepfather.
The police officer who arrested him for the campus rapes and took him to HQ said, 'I couldn't tell you what was going on, but it was like I was talking to different people at different times.'
Terry Sherman, one of the prosecutors on the case, initially called the multiple personality defense 'a cockamamie story,' but quickly changed his mind after sitting in on an interview with Milligan.
Fellow prosecutor Bernard Yavitch said, 'I saw multiple personalities. His speech pattern was different, his accents were different. He sat different ways in the chair.'
Psychiatrists reported that his personalities had been successfully integrated (1988).
He scored 140 on an IQ test.
All but one of his 24 personalities were lefties.
