She was reportedly a jerk in real life.
According to Andy Griffith, Frances once told him to 'stay out her way' in the acting business.
She spoke with an English accent, despite being a New Yorker, because she thought it would give her class.
She refused to use a southern drawl to fit into the Aunt Bee character, sticking with her fake British accent.
An old run down car she owned was sold to some Andy Griffith Show fans for $20,000.
She would only drive Studebaker cars, and made sure to acquire one of the last models made. She kept it despite her cats tearing the interior apart.
She was typecast to play old ladies.

Why she might not be annoying:

She traveled with the USO, entertaining troops in the Pacific during WW II.
She had a successful Broadway career before getting into acting.
