Vocalist

The Resume

    (May 9, 1946- )
Born in Bournemouth, Dorset, England, United Kingdom
Recorded the single ‘Playground in My Mind’ (1973)
Frequent headliner in Las Vegas and Atlantic City

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a one-hit wonder.
’Playground in My Mind’ tends be remembered less for his singing than for featuring an obnoxious kid chanting ‘My name is Michael/I got a nickel.’
The flip side of ‘Playground’ was the oddly prophetic (as far as hit singles were concerned) ‘There’s No Future in My Future.’
He was the announcer and sidekick on Joan Rivers’ short-lived late-night show.

Why he might not be annoying:

He father was an African-American jazz musician and his mother was an English opera singer.
He won a local Emmy for hosting ‘New York at Night.’
He was named best male singer in the ‘Las Vegas Review-Journal’ readers’ poll six times.
Harrah’s casino renamed its showroom after him.
He became a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society after being treated for colon cancer.
