    (October 19, 1928-October 17, 2013)
    Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Co-creator (with Norm Prescott, d. 2005) of Filmation animation studios (1963–1988)
    AKA Erik Gunder
    German Russian Jewish
You pronounce the ‘I,’ not the ‘E’ before it.
For all of his company’s output and innovation – including heavy investment in rotoscopes – he was able to snag but a single award (a Daytime Emmy for the animated Star Trek, 1974).
He was married to a woman named… Jay (who died in 2009).
When he underwent quadruple bypass surgery and got diagnosed with Parkinson’s, his daughter Erika promptly shut down his company.
He worked on an animated feature film that never achieved distribution.
His daughter only announced her homosexuality in 2007, in her late 40s.
With one exception – The New Adventures of Zorro in 1981 – he was at the heart of an American animation empire that used almost no foreign labor.
He thought very highly of JoAnna Cameron’s (Isis) legs and Fred Silverman’s scheduling capacities.
He milked bad budgets for all they were worth, providing voiceovers for numerous supporting characters and introductory narratives (mainly He-Man and the Masters of the Universe).
Gilligan’s Planet (1982) became the first venture for which he was the sole executive producer.
Told that ‘Saturday morning needs a second coming of guys like you,’ he answered, ‘Yeah, but it ain’t gonna happen.’
Case in point, he was told: ‘If you ever ever come to us with another one of those goody-goody shows of yours, we’re gonna toss you out on your ass because we don’t want any of that shit.’ His answer: ‘Well, fine, then, we won’t come to you with anything. Bunch of asses.’
